Mr. John Farrell has joined Woodmont Academy as the new school principal for the 2005-2006 academic school year.
Mr. Farrell comes to education as a second career. For twenty-five years, he worked for the Montgomery County government in the field of Community Corrections. Still sensing a desire to be of service to others(and perhaps impact people’s lives at a younger and more impressionable age!),Mr. Farrell went back to school, received a Masters of Arts degree in Teaching from Johns Hopkins University, and began a career as a classroom teacher in the Howard County Public School system. After seven years with Howard County, he moved to a school within the Archdiocese of Washington, became an administrator, and now has joined us at Woodmont.
He and his wife, Jane, a retired school nurse who now works part time in a dentist’s office, have three children and two grandchildren. Mr. Farrell credits his wife with planting the seed to work in the field of education and, more importantly, with encouraging him to move into Catholic education.
In his short time at Woodmont, Mr. Farrell has been impressed with the energy and enthusiasm he has encountered, and with the friendly welcome he has received from everyone.
“You really can see Christian charity alive here at Woodmont,” he states.
When you see Mr. Farrell, please welcome him and wish him the best of luck and God’s good grace as he takes on his new responsibilities.
