Core Principles of Integral FormationSM

The measure of Woodmont Academy's success and effectiveness is directly related to an understanding of and fidelity to its educational philosophy.  We recognize that there are no shortcuts to solid formation and that there is no easy path to building an outstanding educational institution. Educators need to uphold and remain convinced of the mission and vision, philosophy, and pedagogy. Integral FormationSM   is based on, and is implemented through the following educational principles:

Christ-Centered Spirituality

Our schools set Christ as the model. He is at the center of all our efforts. All our actions, programs, initiatives, goals, and work – the whole school program – exemplifies our desire to know, love and imitate Christ.

Love, Motivation, and Conviction

True formation cannot be imposed or forced. Educators need to positively motivate their students to respond freely, internalize ideals, and become convinced of their actions based in truth. Internal conviction begins by forming the students in moral principles, guiding them to know, love, and desire the goals set out before them. In order to successfully form students, an educator must first motivate them and this motivation has to be grounded in love for God, the student, and others.

Making Leaders

Our aim is to prepare leaders who will work to transform society according to the principles of justice and charity contained in the Church’s social teaching. Our desire is to offer the Church and society integrally formed men and women who will be true Christian leaders in the various spheres of society, a leaven to renew society as a whole.

Personalized Education

Each person is unique, endowed by God with a combination of talents and gifts all his own. Life circumstances for each student are different and depend on the student’s family, social, economic, emotional, and moral settings. As such, the education of the students is undertaken on a personal level. The school aims to support personalized education by ensuring that faculty members, including their teacher, dean of students, formation instructor, and academic coordinator, keep in close personal contact with the student.

Teamwork

The school relies on effective teamwork and cooperation among all faculty and staff to achieve the students’ education and formation goals. Teachers work closely with the members of the directive team and other staff to ensure a high-quality education and that the integral formation of the student takes place. Since teachers have a special understanding and relationship with their individual students and of the dynamics of the classroom, they make a vital contribution to the effectiveness of this team.

Academic Excellence

The school strives to provide our students with the highest-quality intellectual formation. Our courses are rich in content, thorough, and well-grounded in established educational principles. Teachers follow a curriculum that is designed to challenge the students, building on the knowledge and skills acquired in prior years. We employ the most advanced and proven educational tools for the integral formation of our students. These and other programs allow graduates of our school to enter university prepared and confident.

Education by Goals

We place great importance on programming the educational effort with clear goals in mind, accompanied by specific means to achieve each goal. As a school, we hold ourselves accountable for  achieving these goals, for the benefit our students. Each teacher helps  to meet the overall goals of the school  by setting and achieving personal goals for each student and for each class.

Family Involvement

For the education program to be effective, we need communication and contact with the student’s family. The home is the all-important setting where the greatest part of the student’s non-scholastic life is lived and developed, and where his/her personality, character, and behavior are molded. The school encourages regular and meaningful communication between the teacher and the family to ensure that the principles and teachings taught at school are supported at home.

Social Responsibility

We give special importance in cultivating the students’ awareness of social realities and their obligation to respond to the needs of those less fortunate. We organize service opportunities that bring our students into contact with people and situations where suffering and injustice exist. We seek to awaken in our students a sense of social responsibility that will be embraced throughout their lives.

Ongoing Education

Integral formation is a life-long journey. The school works hard to nurture and promote a deep love for learning and ongoing formation, both in the students and faculty. Teachers, through their commitment to ongoing professional development and dedication to their vocation as educators, naturally transmit this love for learning to their students.
