Woodmont Academy engages in four fundraisers each year to bridge the financial gap between operational expenses and the actual cost of educating a student at our school. These fundraisers are the Annual Fund Drive, Gala, Race for Education and our Golf Classic. Each of these is described below. For further information about our fundraising events, please contact Mr. Brandon Miller at bmiller@woodmontacademy.org or 443-574-8100 ext. 136 in our Development Office.

Annual Fund Drive

Every Woodmont Academy school day is full of children laughing, learning and exploring. We are blessed to be a partner with so many families in the education and formation of their children. Our goal is to maintain a reasonable tuition rate such that a quality Catholic education is accessible to the greatest number of families.

As the cost of education and resources continue to increase however, we are faced with the ever-present need to raise funds to cover our basic costs.

As with all private schools, the cost of educating each student at Woodmont is much greater than what we charge in tuition. Therefore, the Annual Fund Drive is essential to filling the gap between tuition income and operating costs. Each year the Annual Fund Drive helps to control tuition increases, while providing funding for many of the school's most pressing needs. Those needs include technology, academic and extracurricular enhancements, athletics, faculty and staff salaries, student financial aid, and the maintenance of our campus.

Every dollar raised enriches the lives of our students in their pursuit of academic, character, spiritual, athletic, and apostolic development.

Our Annual Fund Drive Goals September - June 2008

  • Raise $150,000

  • Achieve 100% participation from school families

Woodmont changes lives. By supporting the school, you are helping to educate tomorrow’s Christian leaders and instill in their hearts the core values of honesty, charity, and respect. We are grateful to you for considering a gift to the Annual Fund Campaign.

The Annual Gala

Considered the “crown jewel” of social events at Woodmont Academy, the Annual Gala is an event which almost defies description. The Gala is a magical evening which showcases the commitment and creativity of our volunteers, the generosity of our school families, and the enduring support of the local business community.

Whether it is a night at the Oscars or a faraway visit to the Islands, the entertainingly themed Gala transports us to a different place as we come together to celebrate the rich past, exciting present and bright future of Woodmont Academy. This annual event includes a cocktail reception, silent and live auctions, dinner and dancing. A highlight of the evening always includes the spirited bidding on projects created by each class at Woodmont. Whether it is a hand-print themed book shelf decorated by our Kindergarteners or a memory book and treasure chest put together by our eighth graders, these projects always garner lots of attention.

Preparation for the Gala begins about nine months before the event, as this time is needed for planning, soliciting live and silent auction items, and securing sponsorships. As the event draws near and invitations have been mailed, excitement builds as volunteers fine-tune the decorations, organize and package silent auction items, print bid sheets, and finalize details for all of the live auction trips, events, and items.

The day of the “big event” is a flurry of activity dedicated to setting up the rooms at Turf Valley where the event is held and creating an ambience that captures both the particular theme of the evening and the mission of our school. The Woodmont community is immensely dedicated to the children, and this is clearly demonstrated by how we come together on this special night to raise funds, increase community awareness and embrace fellowship.

The evening of the Gala begins with cocktails during the Silent Auction phase, where bidders browse through tables displaying fine art, jewelry, dining certificates, class projects, teacher trips, entertainment packages, home and garden items, clothing, salon services, sports paraphernalia, and religious items. You also have the opportunity to purchase a “First Choice” ticket. This drawing is held just before the Live Auction begins; and should you be the lucky number drawn, you have just won your choice of any of the Live Auction items.

When the Silent Auction phase closes, it’s time to move to the dining room, for the live auction, more socializing and dinner. An auctioneer guides you through an impressive array of trips, resort vacations, dinner parties, as well as a few special Woodmont-only offerings, such as Principal for a Day, and a year of Primo Parking on campus. When the bidding ends, but before the dancing begins, dessert is served and the lights dim as music queues an exquisite slide show which takes you through a sentimental journey of life at Woodmont. Faces of our students, faculty and families beam and draw you in to a better understanding of why we do what we do here at Woodmont Academy. We love children; and it shows in everything we do.

Race for Education

As a component of character formation, Woodmont Academy teaches children the virtues of stewardship and charity. To put these virtues into action, Woodmont Academy gives the children of our school community the opportunity to reach out to their family and friends for support through the Race for Education.

Each child who wishes to participate, invites family and friends to sponsor their efforts on the day of the race by making a donation on a per-lap basis as they run around a small track on campus. Afterwards the children are awarded with prizes, lunch and the appreciation of those who have cheered them on. As a school built upon the generous support of others, our children learn to continue the tradition of philanthropy that is necessary for the success of our community.

Woodmont Academy Golf Classic

Held each year in early October, this event is hosted at the prestigious Holly Hills Country club in Ijamsville, Maryland and features 18 holes of golf, lunch, gifts, cigar bar, contests, auctions and a dinner reception. The annual golf classic gives our business community and our school community the opportunity to join together for an afternoon of great fellowship and networking for Woodmont Academy, our sponsors and attendees.

If you have any questions or if you would like to be placed on the mailing list for the Golf Classic, please contact Brandon Miller at 443-574-8100 ext 136 or via e-mail at bmiller@woodmontacademy.org.
